Commit to Being Active

By Karen A. Scanlon, Executive Director

Resolutions are a big topic of discussion this time of year. Most resolutions I've heard lately are about losing the five pounds gained over the holidays or finally taking advantage of the health club membership that's been paid for a year. I want to encourage all Partners readers to resolve in 2007 to become an active member of CTIC.

Resolve to get involved

If you are a member of CTIC, you should get your money's worth, right? We want you to attend meetings, meet other agriculture and conservation leaders, stay up-to-date on the latest conservation issues and participate in CTIC's projects across the country.

Every member is invited to attend the CTIC Board of Directors meetings. You'll meet other members - from agribusiness, ag associations, conservation groups, ag media and other groups - and discover a shared interest in advancing conservation in agriculture. We have three meetings every year. Our summer meeting, tentatively scheduled for June, includes a tour or field day and is a great opportunity to see conservation in action. The last meeting will be in September, and it always takes place in Washington, D.C., so that many of our agency partners can attend.

CTIC has several projects underway to advance conservation in several regions of the country-nutrient management planning in the Mississippi River Basin to address hypoxia in the Gulf of Mexico, livestock waste management in the Midwest, watershed resource manager training in Indiana-and members are always invited to get engaged. These are just some of our current projects. To learn more and find out how to get involved, just call us.

If you're a member, make sure you are on our email distribution list for Member Mail. That's our periodic e-newsletter that keeps members informed about news and events in between Partners issues. If you haven't received Member Mail, or just want to be sure you're on the list, contact Kyle Nickel, our director of communications, at nickel@conservationinformation.org.

Share your message with the rest of the CTIC membership and partner network by taking advantage of special member discounts on advertising in Partners magazine. Your advertisement will be seen by thousands of readers across the country who are looking for ways to make environmentally responsible and economically viable decisions in agriculture. Talk to them directly through Partners. To learn more, go to http://www.conservationinformation.org/?action=members_welcome_advertising.

One you can keep

A resolution to become more active with CTIC in 2007 is the easiest resolution you'll ever make. We'll do whatever we can to help you achieve it. To get involved, to ask a question or just to visit with us, please call our office at 765-494-9555.
